Many people with schizophrenia resort to the abuse of alcohol or street drugs. The reasons for them doing so are complex: some say that the drugs, particularly cannabis, help to reduce the symptoms. It may simply be that people with schizophrenia use street drugs for exactly the same reason that sane people do: because it makes them feel good.
A better understanding of the etiology and meaning of aggressive behavior may lead to better treatment options and, ultimately, better outcomes.
